Palo Alto VA Pairs Up with Walk-In Clinics –

Beginning May 24, veterans enrolled in the Palo Alto VA Health System with minor illnesses or injuries may be able to seek care at a CVS MinuteClinic, a walk-in health facility. The pilot program is designed to allow veterans access to treatment closer to home if a VA hospital or clinic is closed or at capacity. Veterans who wish to use the service must acquire a referral from the nurse advice line.

New Implant Treatment Approved for Opioid Addiction –

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Probuphine, the first buprenorphine implant for treatment of opioid addiction and dependence. The implant is designed to provide a constant, low-level dose of buprenorphine to the patient. The medication was previously only provided in a pill or under-the-tongue film. The treatment consists of four, one-inch long rods implanted in the upper arm for 6 months.

4 Fort Hood Soldiers Missing, 3 Injured, 5 Deceased in Texas Floods –

Following torrential downpour and flash floods, a tactical vehicle carrying several soldiers at Fort Hood was overturned in a low water crossing. The incident occurred during a training procedure, which can take place in all weather conditions. 5 of the soldiers perished in the accident. Aircraft, boats, and canines have been deployed in the search mission for the remaining service members. Our hearts go out to the troops and their families during this trying time.
